Frameus Exhibition Space Contract

Agreement for use of gallery space
Please read the terms and conditions below carefully and sign if you wish to confirm the booking. The gallery is open from 9.00am – 5.30pm Monday to Saturday inclusive. Arrangements for Private Views must be verified at least one month in advance wherever possible.

1. Setting up and hanging is usually carried out the day prior to the preview or public opening (if no preview is to be held) and is the sole responsibility of the exhibitors. A hanging system is in place and must be used.

2. Refreshments are not provided by the gallery but there is access to water and a kettle if required. Glasses can be hired from local supermarkets.

3. Smoking is not permitted in any part of the gallery.

4. The artist should provide at least one large laminated poster advertising the exhibition which will be displayed outside the gallery (the gallery can help with producing this if required). The gallery will contact the local Wells Journal to seek coverage and inform people on our email list, using the artist’s statement and any other publicity material provided by the artist. All other promotional activities should be carried out by the artist.

5. The gallery will be staffed by gallery employees but it is required that the hirer visit as often as possible- details to be agreed.

6. The hirer is fully liable for the full cost of repair to any fixture, fitting, equipment, tools, gallery stock or general decoration which is damaged due to the hirer's negligence during the period of hiring/exhibition. If the gallery owner deems items to be beyond repair then hirer/exhibitors are responsible for replacement of damaged or destroyed items. The same applies to the fabric of the building.

7. The gallery does not make a charge for the hire of the gallery unless the hirer requires a private view in the evening. There is no charge for previews during normal opening hours but it is important to remember that the picture framing business will be operating as normal during that time.

8. The gallery charges 40% commission, which includes VAT, on all sales during the period of the hiring/exhibition. If the artist’s price is £100 the work will be sold at £140.

9. Exhibitors must make sure that all work is collected from the gallery by 5pm on the last day of the exhibition. Any works not cleared can be disposed of at the discretion of the gallery owner unless there is a pre-arranged agreement, signed by the owner of the gallery, for alternative arrangements to be made. No other notice will be provided by the gallery.

10. The hirer/exhibitor will not hold the gallery or the gallery owner responsible for any losses incurred by the hirer resulting from cancellation of the hiring/exhibition or the selling or disposal of their work. The gallery will not be held responsible for any loss incurred by the hirer regardless of the cause of that loss.

11. The gallery reserves the right to cancel a booking up to three weeks before the start of the intended hiring/exhibition. Any breach of the above terms and conditions by the hirer will be regarded as an annulment of the agreement. The exhibition will be cancelled by default of the intended hirer.

12. The picture framing business will be trading alongside the exhibition and hirers are asked to bear that in mind.

Information for Artists hiring Gallery Space.

Artists are responsible for hanging and promoting their own exhibition. All items should be priced (with 40% added) and labelled with information about the work. It is helpful if the artist can also provide an inventory of items left at the gallery with prices. The artist should provide at least one and preferably two laminated A2 or A3 posters advertising the exhibition which can be placed outside the gallery. Market Street is a very busy walk through from the car parks and supermarket to the town centre and these posters are very successful in bringing in passers-by. In addition it is useful to have a further A3 poster to display on the stairway of the gallery.

Artists may wish to place a selection of A4 and A5 posters in a number of outlets. The following list shows a number of local shops that will take exhibition posters, they do not charge unless otherwise stated.
